Your Hyperpigmentation Renewal Serum Questions Answered
Our experts answer your need-to-know questions about hyperpigmentation and how our renewal serum can solve skin discoloration issues.
What is hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition caused by the overproduction of melanin. It manifests as blotchy dark spots, such as freckles (red or brown spots that appear on your face and body) and sun/age spots (larger than freckles and look like brown spots with a reddish tinge).
What causes skin hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation affects most people at some point in their lives. Common causes include excessive sun exposure (both natural sunlight and UV rays), genetics (such as having parents with dark complexions), hormonal imbalance (such as during pregnancy), or an underlying medical condition such as vitiligo (loss of skin pigment or color).
How can I soothe or treat hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation isn’t generally harmful and typically not indicative of something serious. In some situations, dark areas gradually fade through the consistent use of sun protection products.
What are the benefits of using Bianca Miller London’s hyperpigmentation renewal serum?
Hyperpigmentation is not just a cosmetic issue – it causes low self-esteem and a lack of confidence in some individuals. The good news is that there are treatments for hyperpigmentation!
Our hyperpigmentation renewal serum is designed to help soothe dark areas by increasing cell turnover. During this process, the skin sheds dead cells and makes way for new ones, reducing the appearance of dark spots over time.
How can I use hyperpigmentation products in my skincare routine?
Begin your regimen with an exfoliating and brightening facial cleansing wash to remove debris and pollutants while gently removing dead skin. Afterward, target discolouration and dark spots with Bianca Miller’s hyperpigmentation renewal serum.
Seal the deal with a skin-brightening moisturiser, perfect for morning and night. Of course, don’t forget to use sunscreen during the day to protect your skin from sun damage.
Which skin type is it suitable for?
Our Hyperpigmentation Renewal Serum is suitable for any skin type: dry, oily, or combination.
The fragrance-free formula is a holy grail product for people with allergies and skin sensitivities. If this is you, our serum will surely be a staple in your skincare routine!
What type of skin is most susceptible to hyperpigmentation?
People native to sunnier climates typically have more melanin in their skin which has two effects. First, it makes the skin darker and second, it provides the skin with more robust protection against the effects of UV light.
With that being the case it follows that people from less sunny parts of the world will have less melanin in their skin and will be more susceptible to the negative effects of UV light, including hyperpigmentation.
When a person has less melanin the skin will often react unevenly to UV light with melanin accumulating in patches rather than being evenly spread out. That patchy effect is what we call hyperpigmentation.
Are there different types of hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation typically manifests itself in one of three primary ways, each one producing a slightly different appearance. Those different types are:
Type 1: PIH or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
As the name suggests PIH occurs in the aftermath of inflammation caused by a rash, a wound, acne or some other type of trauma. As the skin heals following trauma melanin is produced and released.
Unfortunately, the body often has a difficult time matching the pigment of the healed area with the pigment level of the surrounding area and what we see is a discoloured patch which may be red, pink, brown or another hue, depending on the person’s natural skin tone.
Type 2: Sun spots
This is the most common type of hyperpigmentation and the cause is once again in the name. While the sun is the giver of life, UV light from the sun is also the destroyer of skin. When the skin is exposed to too much UV light it attempts to defend itself by releasing melanin.
The thing is that melanin often winds up bunching together in patches that we call sun spots, or sun freckles. “Age spots” are often thought to result strictly from the passage of time, but they are in fact sun spots.
Type 3: Melasma
Melasma is the body’s response to hormonal changes. It most commonly affects pregnant women and for that reason is often referred to as the “mask of pregnancy”. While melasma is harmless it does cause dark blotches on the skin – usually the face and stomach – that many consider unsightly.
Will hyperpigmentation go away on its own?
As with most things in life, there is no simple yes or no answer to this question. It depends on individual circumstances.
For example, if a person who rarely gets outside spends a two week long holiday lying on the sunny beaches of Bermuda they may well return home with a significant collection of sun spots. However, if they return to their indoor ways those spots will eventually fade, though it may take several months.
In cases of hyperpigmentation related to wound healing the discolouration may not fade by itself to any significant degree, even after several years have passed. Other factors that influence how long hyperpigmentation may linger include the person’s skin tone and how much water they drink.

I absolutely love the serum and how it feels on my skin. All the ingredients are natural and it just leaves my face feeling revitalised. I use the face wash, renewal serum and face cream every day, but the serum is my favourite!

Wow wow wow. This serum is incredible and the smell is amazing. I use this as part of the 3 step process and my skin feels amazing. Having oily skin I was worried that this serum would make my skin too oily but it really doesn’t. Amazing. 10/10

This serum is hands down the best serum I have ever used! I have very oily skin, but after using this consistently with the other 2 products (cleanser and moisturiser) my skin is no longer oily. This serum does not sit on top of the skin like others I have used in the past, but it melts into the skin leaving your face feeling soft and oil free. Oh, and it smells beautiful!

I’ve never used a serum before, mainly because I didn’t really know what it did!
So, having read the full benefits and the ingredients I thought I’d try the Hian Renewal Serum and I was not disappointed.
Just the scent alone was amazing – like you stepped into a spa.
After using the Hian facial wash, I applied just a tiny drop of the serum as per the easy to follow instructions.
The product fully absorbs into your skin leaving a healthy, non- greasy radiant glow. I’ve noticed any blemishes, dark circles have completely cleared up after the first few weeks of use. This is now part of my daily routine twice a day – it’s simple to use and takes seconds to apply.
Great customer service, efficient delivery and packaging makes this product one of my favourites.
Sharmain.

This is the first time that I have tried a serum and I will admit that I was pleasantly surprised. I followed the steps after cleansing my face with the Hian Skin facial cleansing wash. It is very light and goes on smoothly with just a few drops required. I will be using the serum twice daily for the foreseeable – I’m not going back!!!

Can’t lie everytime I use the serum it feels like I’ve been bestowed with heavenly goodness. It’s helped to balance the moisture levels of my skin and I’ve noticed some scars are no longer visible.
As a man, skin care has been something I’ve neglegted but now… not a day goes by without me blessing my face 🙂
