Nail Cosmetics
Pinterest and Instagram boards are filled with lots of nail cosmetics information. We can spend hours just looking at the works and creations of others. It’s time to load up on your bottles of nail polish as nail cosmetics take on a new life on your nails. Nail cosmetics of today is more liberating as we get to express ourselves with all sorts of colours. But was it always this way? Let’s take a look at the history of nail cosmetics.
History of Nail Cosmetics
The roots of nail cosmetics stems from Ancient China and Egypt. Both records appear about the same time, so the consensus is that both nations were doing this independent of the other. Also, in both places it was the fingernail staining that started the trend and fashion we know today.
In Ancient China and Egypt, fingernail staining became a part of a person’s status. Only the wealthy people could afford to do such things. The staining would go on to denote status and power within the ranks. It would also establish a clear boundary amongst the wealthy and poor as rules were set in place that only the wealthy could wear certain types of stains. Some families went as far as to say that a certain color could only be worn by them. If anyone was found with this contraband color they were severely punished.
Nail Cosmetics Today
Initially the nail polish and painting we know today started in the 1930s. The original formula was not good and reworked over the years. By the 1940s the formula was perfected and the spiral of artistry on our fingertips began. But in essence, nail art and creativity was not noticed until black Americans coined long false nails and it was labeled as being “ghetto”, in the 1990s. From there nails took on a new dimension and it shows today.
Fingernail painting today is a beautiful mix of art and cleanliness. Nail cosmetics has evolved and shaped to a rewarding beauty regimen. It is affordable and the results are nails that are attractive and compliment some part of the person’s outfit or lifestyle. You can change up your mood in an instant. You can switch up colors and styles to match your outfits. We are glad that nail staining nobility fell away so that more people can enjoy having their fingernails painted.
Nail Cosmetics Care
Wearing a dark nail polish will draw attention. Have your nails well manicured and moisturized.
- Apply a ridge-filling base coat to even out surface.
- To save time use a base and ridge filler in one.
- Base coat also protects nails. Dark colors can stain or yellow nails.
Chipping can show up on dark nails easier. To avoid such a thing, run the brush across the very tip of each nail so that you’re almost painting the underside. After two minutes, brush on a top coat.
Avoid quick-dry top coats, which tend to chip. Instead, drip cuticle oil over each nail to decrease drying time.
Once the polish is thoroughly dry, dip an eye-shadow applicator (cotton swab will leave fuzz behind) in polish remover to clean up the skin around the nail beds.
